2. What Do Diesel Delete Kits Do? System Functions & Real Performance Gains
Diesel delete kits are more than just bolt-ons — they’re system-level upgrades designed to unlock hidden horsepower, improve fuel economy, and extend engine life. At SPELAB, we combine multiple delete components into all-in-one delete kits for diesel trucks, allowing you to get maximum gains in one complete package.
2.1 What Each Component Does
-
EGR Delete (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Delete)
Removes the EGR system that re-circulates exhaust back into the intake. By eliminating it, you reduce soot buildup, lower intake temperatures, and improve combustion efficiency — ideal for 2003–2007 F250/F350 6.0L Powerstroke trucks. -
DPF Delete (Diesel DPF Delete Kits)
The DPF clogs over time and requires frequent regeneration cycles. Deleting it can improve exhaust flow by up to 35%, reduce backpressure, and improve MPG by up to 2–3 miles per gallon on long hauls — especially effective for 2011–2022 F250 6.7L Powerstroke V8 Diesel owners. -
DEF Delete (Diesel Exhaust Fluid System Delete)
Eliminates the need for fluid refills and prevents system faults. Ideal for fleets and heavy haulers, saving hundreds in DEF refills annually.
➡️ This delete is performed electronically using a tuner (EFI, VI,V2)or tuning software — no physical hardware is needed to disable the DEF system.
-
CCV/PCV Delete (Crankcase Ventilation Delete)
Keeps oil vapor out of your intake system, reducing valve fouling and extending the life of turbo components — especially useful for 2017–2024 GMC Sierra 2500 6.6L Duramax platforms. -
Turbo + Up-Pipe Kits
Pairing a high-performance turbo with a delete kit improves spool time, throttle response, and towing torque — gains of 50–70 horsepower and 100+ lb-ft of torque are common with proper tuning.
2.2 Real Performance Data (When Combined)
When using a full EGR + DPF + DEF + CCV delete kit with tuning on a 6.7L Cummins engine, customers have reported:
-
🔺 +60–100 HP increase
-
🔺 +15–20% better fuel efficiency
-
🔺 Significantly reduced regen cycles and error codes
-
🔺 Smoother turbo spool and lower EGTs (exhaust gas temps)
These kits are designed to work in harmony, meaning the more components you delete, the greater the impact.
3. Pros & Cons of All-in-One Diesel Delete Kits
SPELAB’s all-in-one diesel delete kits offer a complete solution for drivers looking to eliminate restrictions and maximize power. But like any performance upgrade, they come with both benefits and considerations. Here’s what you need to know before choosing the right delete kit for your diesel truck.
3.1 Pros – Why Our Customers Love SPELAB Delete Kits
-
Improved Horsepower & Torque
Full diesel delete kits (like EGR + DPF + DEF deletes) can boost output by 60–100+ HP and up to 200 lb-ft of torque when paired with proper tuning. This is especially true for trucks like the 2015.5–2016 LML 6.6L Duramax or the 2018–2019 3.0L Powerstroke. -
Better Fuel Economy
Reducing exhaust restrictions can improve fuel mileage by 2–5 MPG, which means serious savings over time — perfect for daily drivers or long-haul truckers. -
Lower Maintenance Costs
With no DEF fluid to refill or DPF filters to regenerate or replace, maintenance becomes simpler and more affordable. -
Enhanced Engine Longevity
By removing components that cause carbon buildup and excess heat, you preserve engine health — especially on 2007–2021 Dodge Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins platforms.
3.2 Cons – Things to Consider
-
Off-road Use Only
Most diesel delete kits are designed for race, competition, or off-road use only and may not be street legal in certain states. Always check local regulations before installation. -
Tuning Required
To fully benefit from a delete kit, your truck will require aftermarket tuning. Luckily, SPELAB offers resources and partner networks to help. -
Initial Cost
An all-in-one delete kit may be more expensive upfront, but the long-term gains in power, reliability, and fuel savings often offset the investment.
3.3 Which Setup Is Right for You?
User Type | Recommended Setup |
---|---|
Daily Driver | EGR + CCV Delete Kit |
Long-Distance Hauler | EGR + DPF + DEF Delete Kit |
Heavy Towing / Performance | Full Delete Kit + Turbo Upgrade |
Maintenance Simplification | DPF + DEF Delete Kit |
Duramax 3.0 or 6.7 Cummins Owners | Duramax 3.0 Delete Kit or EGR + DPF Delete Kit |

5. How to Install Your Diesel Delete Kit
Installing a diesel delete kit can sound intimidating, but with the right tools and guidance, it’s very doable — even for skilled DIYers. Here's a simplified overview of the process:
Whether you're working on a 2011–2022 Ford F250 6.7L Powerstroke, a 2017–2024 GMC Sierra 2500 L5P Duramax, or a 2007–2021 Ram 2500 6.7L Cummins, the steps are simple and repeatable across platforms.
5.1 Quick Overview
-
🔩 Tools Needed: Basic hand tools (socket set, wrenches), lift or jack stands
-
⏱️ Install Time: Around 2–5 hours, depending on the truck and kit
-
💻 Tuning Required: Yes — use a compatible tuner (e.g., EFI Live, EZ LYNK,) to disable DPF/DEF/EGR electronically
-
📘 Resources Included: Printed instructions, video guides, and expert support
-
👨🔧 Optional: For best results, consider a professional installation — especially if it’s your first time working on diesel systems
5.2 Step-by-Step Installation Process
-
Disconnect the Battery
Always begin by disconnecting your truck’s battery to avoid system errors or electrical issues. -
Remove Factory Emissions Equipment
Depending on your delete kit, uninstall the EGR valve, DPF filter, DEF lines, and/or CCV system. This usually involves removing exhaust and intake-side components. -
Install SPELAB Delete Kit Components
Mount the provided block-off plates, delete pipes, or turbo up-pipes. Our parts are built to factory specs, so no cutting or welding is required.
🛻 For example, the EGR + DPF + DEF Delete Kit for a 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD 6.6L L5P Duramax installs cleanly using existing mounting points and includes all required hardware.
5.3 Installing the Tuner via CAN Bus
-
Locate and Plug Into the CAN Bus Port
Most modern diesel trucks (like the 2015–2019 F350 6.7L Powerstroke or the 2018 Ram 3500 6.7 Cummins) have a CAN Bus port under the dash or near the OBD-II connector. -
Connect the SPELAB Tuner
Simply plug it into the CAN Bus — no extra wiring or modifications needed. -
Choose Your Tune File
Select from pre-loaded tuning options (Performance, Tow, Economy, or All-in-One Delete). The system will guide you step by step. -
Flash the ECU
Follow on-screen prompts. The reprogramming process usually takes 5–10 minutes and disables EGR, DPF, and DEF systems electronically.
5.4 Final Checks & Test Drive
-
Reconnect the Battery
Power everything back up. -
Start the Engine
Verify no check engine lights or DEF warnings. Listen for leaks or unusual noises. -
Go for a Test Drive
You should immediately notice better throttle response, smoother spool, and reduced regen cycles (if previously active).

As advertised works and looks great

Good stuff, love the kit. Installed it all myself under 6 hours. Now I need to find a way to keep the minimax from getting unplugged when I hit a bump

Easy to install, quality parts, and sound better than I expected. I would recommend these to others. Instructions are on line.

Intake horn is real nice, block off plate is real nice, gaskets are decent. I removed first 3 fuel lines and the cp3 line and had mine done in about 4hr by myself start to finish. 2012 Cummins. No cel, no issues. Took away a lot of the black smoking. Increased boost noticeably. Five stars.

Good fit, sounds awesome, definitely made a difference, hose clamps could be a little better, holes was off a little for the sensors, but for the price overall good product!

They have great customer service what I order was much better than what I was expecting to receive thank you for guys for everything

This was a very easy install, the parts seems to be good quality.

Great products, the updates and revisions to there parts show they care about making things better. 100% would buy all my parts from Spelab.

Directions were not good and there isn’t a heater bolt yet..but the product is great and you can’t beat the price. Happy with the product.

This is a good upgrade. I change the rear differential fluid frequently so now I will be able to drain and refill more easily. Easy install. No leaking. Hardware and gasket included. Very happy

I was impressed with the build quality. And very happy with the cover features: fill plug, drain plug, sight glass, nice paint, cooling fins and machined channels on the inside to direct fluid flow. I also put in some AMSOIL diff fluid. A winning combo. Love that gasket and premium hardware is included. A much better deal than the Banks cover. This cover will cool plenty abd direct fluids where it needs to go. I’m happy with my investment and highly recommend.

Fairly straight forward to install. My truck seems to be running and breathing a ton better.

Installed this billet version onto my 2019 Roush F150 recently. I wanted a cover that had the proper fluid flow vaning and fill and drain plugs to make future fluid changes easier, as I plan to renew the fluid every 30k miles. The sight glass so you can see the level and the condition of the fluid is also a great feature. I did quite a bit of research on which cover I wanted to install and saw the fluid flow issues with the square back covers, whereas this one has the proper curved design and vanes in it to direct the fluid that's coming over the top to the correct places of the differential for proper lubrication. I went with the billet one so that it's stronger than the lower priced cast version, as I keep my vehicles forever (20 years and 200k miles or more) and would rather do it right one time than have to do it again. The magnetic plugs to capture any ferrous gear wear is also a nice benefit. Installed with LubeLocker gasket.

Fit like crap. As did the down pipe. I got ppe ones and no refund from spelab

Fits very well and is really well constructed. Also looks really good installed in the truck!
