Cummins Intercooler Upgrades for Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 Trucks
If your Dodge Ram Cummins struggles with heat soak, high intake air temperatures, boost leaks, or power loss while towing, upgrading the intercooler can help improve charge air cooling under load. SPELAB Cummins intercoolers are designed for Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 diesel trucks, with direct-fit options for 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins applications.
This collection focuses on Cummins intercooler replacement and upgrade options, including all-aluminum tube-fin intercoolers and heavy-duty bar-and-plate intercoolers for 2003–2018 Ram diesel trucks. Before ordering, confirm your model year, engine size, and product fitment details.
Which Cummins Intercooler Should You Choose?
Start with your truck’s model year and engine size, then choose the intercooler core design based on how the truck is used.
- Daily driving or factory replacement: Choose an all-aluminum tube-fin Cummins intercooler if you need a practical replacement for an aging, damaged, or leaking factory unit.
- Towing, hot climates, or heavy loads: Choose a bar-and-plate Cummins intercooler if your truck regularly sees sustained boost, steep grades, high intake air temperatures, or trailer use.
- Tuned or performance setups: A heavy-duty Cummins intercooler upgrade can help support stable charge air cooling when added boost and fueling increase heat demand.
- Boost leak or damaged factory intercooler: Inspect the intercooler, intercooler pipes, boots, clamps, and intake connections together before replacing only one component.
Find the Right Cummins Intercooler by Year
Dodge Ram Cummins trucks use different intercooler fitments by model year. Use the guide below to narrow your choice before checking each product page for exact fitment.
- 2003–2007 5.9L Cummins: Choose a 5.9 Cummins intercooler replacement or upgrade if your factory unit is leaking, damaged, heat-soaked, or no longer keeping intake air temperatures under control.
- 2007.5–2009 early 6.7L Cummins: This fitment range shares the 2003–2009 intercooler group on this collection. It is a common choice when refreshing the charge air system on early 6.7L Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks.
- 2010–2012 6.7L Cummins: These Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks can benefit from an upgraded intercooler when towing, managing higher intake air temperatures, or replacing an aging factory unit.
- 2013–2018 6.7L Cummins: For later 6.7 Cummins trucks, an intercooler upgrade can help support more consistent cooling during trailer use, tuned driving, hot-weather operation, and long-distance diesel work.
Tube-Fin vs Bar-and-Plate Cummins Intercoolers
This collection includes both tube-fin and bar-and-plate Cummins intercooler designs. A tube-fin intercooler is often a practical choice for daily driving, factory replacement, and owners who want efficient cooling with lighter construction. A bar-and-plate intercooler is typically chosen by truck owners who want a heavier-duty core design for towing, tuned setups, hot climates, and repeated high-load driving.
If your truck mainly needs a durable replacement for a worn factory intercooler, an all-aluminum tube-fin Cummins intercooler can be a smart choice. If your Ram frequently tows, runs added power, or struggles with rising intake temperatures, a bar-and-plate Cummins intercooler may be the better option.
Why Upgrade Your Cummins Intercooler?
The intercooler cools compressed air from the turbocharger before it enters the engine. When intake air temperatures rise, your Cummins may feel less responsive during towing, climbing grades, hot-weather driving, or tuned operation. A Cummins intercooler upgrade can improve charge air cooling capacity compared with a worn, leaking, or undersized factory unit.
Common reasons to replace or upgrade a Dodge Ram Cummins intercooler include leaking end tanks, damaged cores, reduced cooling efficiency, boost leaks, high intake air temperatures, and power loss under sustained load. For best results, inspect related components such as intercooler pipes, boots, clamps, and intake connections at the same time.
If you are refreshing your Cummins charge air or cooling system, you may also want to compare Cummins intercooler pipe upgrades, Cummins performance parts, Cummins intake manifold upgrades, and Cummins radiator upgrades for a more complete airflow and cooling system setup.

So far it looks nice and fit pretty well.
Welds look solid and professional quality, I have not installed them yet but I did put them in place under truck to ensure length and thus far everything looks good. I will give an update after install and on the road with them
Product came in earlier than expected and is made out of high quality materials. SPELAB hasn't let me down yet!!
The product installed perfectly high-quality superior part. For my 2022 f350. Coolant reroute kit.
Everything works great all parts fit hangers fit have pictures if needed
This is a really nice set up inexpensive but well-made. Make sure you use 1/4 inch drive and torque wrench, if you get the half socket 10mm and multi size extensions even better it’ll make getting those two back bolts easy
Makes truck breathe better and will definitely blow your y bridge out so do that while you’re in there looks great and fits up pretty good not perfect
Installed this SPELAB EGR Throttle Valve Delete on my 6.7 Cummins and the fitment was perfect. The kit was well made, installation was straightforward, and all the necessary parts were included. Everything lined up as it should and the truck runs great. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quality replacement component.
I originally had the Banks Monster Ram intake with grid heater delete, and costed $1200. Recently I decided to give Spelab a try for their 3.5” pusher style intake with grid heater delete. Fraction of the price and performs the same. Only regret I have was my purchase of Banks.
Great product
Good product fast sipping was not that bad of a job
Nicely done ✅
Easy installation and everything fit perfectly. The kit is well-made, comes with the necessary components, and worked as expected. Shipping was fast and the quality exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a reliable EGR delete kit.
Very impressed with the quality of the cooler. Couldn’t find any instructions for the install. However, I was able to figure it out and plan to post a video for anyone else who may need help with the install.
Installed this on my 2015 6.7 Powerstroke and everything fit perfectly. Quality parts, straightforward install, and noticeable improvement in engine temps and reliability. Would definitely recommend this kit to anyone doing an EGR delete.
Cummins Intercooler FAQs
A Cummins intercooler cools compressed air from the turbocharger before it enters the engine. Cooler, denser air helps support more consistent diesel performance under load.
This collection covers Dodge Ram Cummins intercooler upgrades for 5.9L and 6.7L diesel trucks, including Ram 2500 and 3500 applications from 2003–2018.
Common signs include boost leaks, reduced power, higher intake air temperatures, visible core damage, leaking end tanks, oil residue near connections, hissing under boost, or poor towing performance under load.
Tube-fin intercoolers are a practical choice for daily driving and factory replacement. Bar-and-plate intercoolers are often preferred when the truck needs a heavier-duty core for towing, tuning, hot climates, or repeated high-load use.
For trucks that tow frequently, a bar-and-plate intercooler is often preferred because the heavier-duty core can better handle repeated heat cycles and sustained boost during long pulls. Daily drivers may not always need the heaviest core design.
It is a good idea to inspect the intercooler pipes, boots, clamps, and connections during an intercooler upgrade. A new intercooler will not solve all boost issues if old pipes, boots, or clamps are still leaking.
A properly matched Cummins intercooler upgrade can help reduce heat soak by improving charge air cooling capacity, especially when the truck is under sustained load.
