  • ECM Serial Number: For 2020-2021 models, connect directly to the ECM connector; the serial number typically starts with "40." For 2022 models without an ECM swap, connect via the OBD port; the serial number usually begins with "37." If a 2021 ECM has been installed in a 2022 model, connect directly to the ECM connector; the serial number should start with "40."

  • TCM Serial Number: For all model years, connect through the OBD port; the serial number generally starts with "59."

  • Cable Serial Number: This number is found on the Commander tool's cable.

Information Submission:

Compile the following details and email them in plain text format:

  • Order Number

  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

  • Cable Serial Number

  • ECM Serial Number

  • TCM Serial Number

  • For pre-2022 SOTF tunes: Preferred idle sound (options include stock, rumble, or hiss)

To ensure a smooth tuning process, please follow these steps to obtain and provide the necessary serial numbers:

Section A: Gathering TCU Serial Number, Cable Serial Number, and VIN

  1. Connect Devices: Attach the supplied OBD cable to your vehicle's OBD port and the Commander device. Then, connect the provided USB cable from the Commander to your computer.

  2. Prepare Information: Open a text editor and create a template with the following details:

    • Order Number

    • Vehicle VIN

    • Cable Serial Number

    • ECM Serial Number

    • TCM Serial Number

    • [For pre-2022 SOTF tunes] Idle preference (stock, rumble, or hiss)

  3. Ignition: Turn your vehicle's ignition to the "ON" position (avoid the accessory position).

  4. Launch Software: Open the Autoflasher software and navigate to:

    • Cable > Connect

  5. Retrieve Cable Serial Number: Double-click the displayed Cable Serial Number to copy it, then paste it into your template.

  6. Identify TCU: In the software, go to:

    • OBD > Identify > TCU

  7. Retrieve TCU Serial Number: Double-click the ECU Serial Number (it should start with "59") to copy and paste it into your template.

  8. Obtain VIN: Navigate to:

    • OBD > Get VIN Copy and paste the VIN into your template.

  9. Save Stock Tune [2020-2021 Models Only]: To back up your stock tune:

    • Click OBD > Read

    • Select "ECM" in the prompt. If tuning the TCM as well, repeat this step for the TCM and save both read files.

  10. Disconnect: In the software, select:

    • Cable > Disconnect

  11. Proceed:

    • For 2020-2021 ECMs: Disconnect the Commander device from both the vehicle and computer, then move to Section B.

    • For 2022 ECMs: Skip to Section C.


Section B: Obtaining ECM Serial Number for 2020-2021 Models

  1. Connect Devices: Attach the OBD cable to your vehicle's OBD port and the Commander device. Then, connect the USB cable from the Commander to your computer.

  2. Ignition: Turn your vehicle's ignition to the "ON" position.

  3. Launch Software: Open the Autoflasher software and select:

    • Cable > Connect

  4. Identify ECM: Navigate to:

    • OBD > Identify > ECU

  1. Compose Email: Create a new email addressed to service@spelabautoparts.com. Use the subject line: "Order # [Your Order Number] Powerstroke Tune Request".
  2. Include Information: Copy the details from your text editor template (Order #, Vehicle VIN, Cable Serial #, ECM Serial #, TCM Serial #, and Idle Choice if applicable) and paste them into the email body.
  3. Attach Files: Attach the read files you saved during the process (e.g., ECM and TCM ".bin" files).
  4. Send Email: Double-check everything and hit send.

Processing Time: It typically takes 1-3 business days to receive your tune files. Due to email size limits, the TCM tune (if applicable) will arrive in a separate email.


Section E: Writing the ECM Tune File

Once you receive your custom tune files, follow these steps to install them:

  1. Connect Devices: Refer to Section B (2020-2021 models) or Section C (2022+ models) to reconnect your Commander device and software.
  2. Initiate Writing:
    • For 2020-2021 models: Use Service Mode > Write.
    • For 2022+ models: Use OBD > Write.

  3. Locate Sensor: Route the wires to the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) sensor at the front of the engine bay.
  4. Connect Wires: Insert the SOTF wires into the provided CAC connector (wire orientation doesn’t matter).
  5. Disconnect Factory Sensor: Unplug the factory CAC sensor and connect the SOTF connector to its harness.
  6. Secure Throttle Valve Sensor: Unplug the throttle valve sensor and tape it out of the way to prevent interference with moving parts.
